Hello feet! At long last, after 9 weeks, I'm finally walking without the crutches and have had permission to walk in shoes at home. My physio therapist says I'm doing really well and it's only due to the slow healing incision that was preventing me from doing better. I feel safer walking in the boot when I'm out, so I haven't thrown it out yet, but can't wait to be back in shoes 24/7. What I really want is to start driving again....
My incision has been good and bad, I just finished my second round of oral antibiotics, which has stopped the drainage. However, the skin has pulled apart at the top of the incision but is slowly healing. I found out the Bacitracin ointment was actually preventing the healing, so I've stopped putting anything on the wound, hoping it will heal naturally.
The Eagles concert was great - apart from the continuous rain all night - we were soaked from head to toe. But it didn't seem to affect the large stadium full of hardy New Englanders. They are quite used to it I suppose? This is a picture of Rick wearing the regulation plastic poncho!
I had cleverly rented a travel wheelchair from a place in Acton as the parking was a little way from the stadium. Thanks to Rick, he pushed me to the gate and I managed to walk down the steps with my crutch. If I'd been ultra organized, I would have switched the tickets for disabled seating, (which happens to be under cover) - oh well, I hope there's never going to be another time, but maybe this information is going to be helpful to someone else.
What else have I been doing with myself? I've been busy crocheting granny squares for another afghan blanket. I think I'm up to about 60 at the moment, but I'll keep going until I no longer have spare time. Here's a picture of a couple of washcloths I made in a cotton yarn - they are lovely to use in the shower. You can find the pattern on my first ATR blog entry.
