Thanksgiving is almost here and recipes with pumpkin and cranberries abound. Growing up in London, England, I had never eaten fresh cranberries before moving to the US and it was quite a surprise when a friend brought home-made cranberry sauce to a Thanksgiving dinner I was hosting. Of course, I have never looked back and when fresh cranberries appear in the markets, I try to freeze as many bags as I can.
So, when my good friend Kim (another Brit) came to visit from Los Angeles last weekend, I took her to see our local cranberry bog in
Carlisle, MA. Not many people know how cranberries are harvested, except that they've seen the Ocean Spray commercial with those 2 guys wading in a pond with cranberries floating on top. To get recipes and more info about bogs and wet harvesting, check out the
Ocean Spray website.
Here are some of the photos taken that day by my daughter Ashley. It was a beautiful fall day and the fall leaves on the trees surrounding the bog are almost at their peak.
